It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs Patricia Brassington, who taught for many years at Thornton until her retirement in 2004.
Trish, as she was known to the staff, and ‘Mrs B’, as many of her pupils addressed her, was appointed to teach English and then went on to lead a very successful department before being further promoted to Deputy Headmistress under Mrs Liz Speddy and, later, Miss Agnes Williams. However, it was her English teaching that remained her first love and she always ensured that she maintained as full a teaching timetable as her other duties would allow.
She will be remembered by many, not only for her excellent teaching, but also for the full part she played in the life of the school, promoting its ethos and living the values of St Claudine. She also worked closely with the Sisters at Thornton, enjoying their friendship and support.
Trish contributed to our school in so many ways that it is difficult to list them, although amongst all, what will stand out is the memory of the wonderful cultural trips to Greece and Italy, the countless theatre trips to venues in London, Stratford-upon-Avon and many other places, and the several Shakespeare productions that she staged at school.
Trish will be remembered by all of her pupils and their parents, as a knowledgeable and inspirational teacher; an excellent form teacher who always had time to listen; and a much-loved friend and colleague who was respected and appreciated for her hard work and her complete commitment to her beloved Thornton.
She will be sorely missed – Rest in Peace, Mrs Brassington.
