Three students, Lara J (Year 10), Cheryl Chau (Year 12) and Alex K (Year 8), accompanied by Mrs Nolan, Thornton’s Head of Computer Science, visited Cranfield University’s Aerospace Robotics Post Graduate department recently.  This faculty do amazing work with Rolls Royce and BAE amongst other large engineering firms.  Their work at Cranfield is also focused on how humans engage with robotics from a safety perspective which is an ever increasing collaboration between humans and machines. Our students had a tour of the robotics lab where they saw both large manufacturing and smaller domestic humanoid robots.

Mrs Nolan and the girls were hosted by the Professor and Robotics Course director Gilbert Tang, who also writes the Robotics Course at the soon to be open MK:U as well as the Masters in Robotics at Cranfield.  Mr Tang was impressed by the interest and knowledge level of our students, and thought the CAD design made by Lara J for her Computer Science AI project was very impressive and showed great potential.
