Co-Curricular Activities

Thornton runs an extensive co-curricular programme of over 70 clubs each week across the school. All clubs are age-appropriate, and the vast majority are included in school fees, offering students a wide variety of opportunities to develop a range of skills.

Our co-curricular club programme provides opportunities for students to use their talents to the full whilst developing their character. The programme of clubs that we run involves each club being linked to one of six “Thrive Themes”:

  • Challenge
  • Enterprise
  • Independent decision-making
  • Resilience
  • Spirituality
  • Physical and mental wellbeing

Students in Years 7-13 compile a Portfolio by completing activities through the co-curricular programme over the academic year. Regular attendance and taking part in/completion of activities to a high standard are signed off by the club leader at the end of the academic year, and rewarded with a pin that denotes a skill/theme has been successfully achieved.

There are clubs focused on recreation and having fun whilst developing skills, including Prep and Senior Chamber Choir, Glee Club, Origami Club and Drama Club, to name just a few. Other activities are more practical such as Football, Tag Rugby and Cricket club. We also offer those that complement academic study, such as Enterprise Club, Model United Nations, and Debating Club.

In addition, Thornton runs a extra-curricular programme which provides paid-for lessons in ballet, musical instruments, singing and speech and drama. We also run the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, providing girls with opportunities to develop key life skills.
