We are so lucky at Thornton to have such amazing old girls!
This week saw four Alumnae deliver inspiring talks about their career pathways and varied job roles. Heather Barnes shone a light on life as a Bio Chemist at Johnson and Johnson and, how since joining them as a graduate, she has already worked in several different departments. It was fantastic to hear how Heather combines her love of STEM subjects with developing products for the world’s largest healthcare company.
Sarah Putnam qualified as a Mental Health Nurse last year and gave us a great insight into her daily practice as a clinician. Sarah shared her initially unhappy experience of university, but how taking a different degree as a mature student was hugely positive.
Georgina Wilmot has just started on the prestigious graduate programme with JP Morgan, and agreed with Heather about the benefits of working for a large organisation in terms of being able to try so many different roles. Currently working in HR, Georgie gave some great insider tips about work experience and summer placements!
Finally, Alix Kelly talked passionately about her work for NGOs in International Development, with a particular focus on Ghana. She highlighted several sectors, such as Health and Education and also recommended targeting smaller charities if this is an area that interests students.
There was a wealth of information at the event and we are hugely grateful to all four wonderful speakers for giving up time to take part.
