Thornton were delighted to be joined by parents and students from local schools at our recent Degree Apprenticeship Information Evening.

Professor Lynette Ryals OBE gave a fantastic overview of MK:U, the brand new university on our doorstep, that has just launched four programmes. The academic teaching will be delivered by the prestigious Cranfield University and many local employers have signed up to work with them.

Kamila Falkowska gave more details about the structure of each programme and Mark Denton, of Zenopa gave the employer’s perspective. The study programme focuses on problem-based learning with students working in teams to solve real life problems; for example, relating to supply chains and climate change.

Mark emphasised how the learning curve of apprentices is so much faster than that of graduates and how when selecting applicants, he considers soft skills to be as important as academic qualifications. Lynette mentioned the new MK:U student app, which Thornton students collaborated with Cranfield University to design. It was an inspiring evening and we are proud of the employer and university links that Thornton has, giving our students the very best opportunities available.
