We are passionate about the all-round development of girls at Thornton College, taking our duty of care very seriously.
As such, we ensure that we get to know each girl very well indeed and make certain that the experience we offer is tailored to her individual needs.
It is our aim that the girls at Thornton develop the skills that enable them to become lifelong learners. To do this, we endeavour to nurture and develop the whole child and encourage the confidence and self-belief that will lead to the success we wish for all our girls in every aspect of their lives.
We are blessed with committed teachers who very quickly build close relationships with the girls. The bond of trust between all the staff and students is more than evident and allows their journey through Thornton to be a rich and rewarding one for us all.
The classes are small, a maximum of 20 in the Prep School, meaning each girl receives individual attention to her academic, social and creative development, enabling her to thrive. The way we organise the curriculum and activities ensure that she will achieve personal success in all areas.
The best of traditional methods are employed in teaching literacy and numeracy skills, coupled with more innovative and modern methods. SMART Board technology is in place in all teaching classrooms, appealing to the needs of all learners.
As girls move up the school they are increasingly taught by subject specialists, particularly for French language, music, dance, singing, Science and Games. This develops a deeper understanding of a subject and access to specialist facilities in addition to preparing each girl for the Senior School system.
