SPOTLIGHT CAREERS – EMMA COURTNEY

Posted: 25th March 2026

Emma Courtney delivered a fantastic talk on different roles within the Creative Arts Sector. Having always wanted to be a Vet, Emma failed her Physics GSCE whilst achieving the highest English GSCE mark in the country! She studied English and Philosophy at university, took a graduate position in Marketing before securing a job with Weber Shandwick, the world’s largest PR Agency. Emma explained the difference between PR and Marketing, and although she gained brilliant experience at Weber Shandwick, she wanted to work for organisations and campaigns that she cared about. She went on to work for The Lyric Theatre Belfast as Head of Marketing. Emma stressed that she did not have all the relevant skills and experience for this job, but she did have a passion for theatre and commitment to the sector. Now running her own business, Courtney Consulting, Emma is committed to using her skills for good, and works with arts based charities and clients including the Royal Shakespeare Company and Historic Royal Palaces. This was a hugely inspiring talk and we are grateful to Emma for giving up her time to share her career journey.
