YEAR 11 BUSINESS TRIP – JOHN LEWIS

Posted: 3rd October 2024

Our Year 11 Business students were lucky enough to visit the very impressive John Lewis Distribution Centre at Magna Park. Not only was this an informative trip relating to careers, but the tour fitted in perfectly with topics currently being studied for GCSE, including the benefits and impacts of automation and employee working schedules and conditions. Partners working at the centre were all positive about their working environment and shared how supportive John Lewis are about working hours, staff wellbeing and how they feel heard and valued by management. There are 820 partners working at the centre, with a number of new staff currently being recruited as they approach the busiest time of the year for the retail sector. We learnt how temporary staff are integrated, with each section of the floor having a hub where managers can meet their teams regularly. This was a bespoke tour for Thornton and we are very grateful to John Lewis for the support they give us.
