Following last week’s Post 16 qualification successes, we are delighted to announce an outstanding set of GCSE results for our students at Thornton College. Building on the school’s strong record of achievement, this year’s results reflect the hard work, determination and ambition of our students, supported by dedicated staff and families within a community that champions both academic success and personal growth.

This year’s cohort achieved an excellent set of results across a broad range of subjects, with 25% of all grades awarded at Grades 9-8 and 44% at Grades 9-7. A further 68% of grades were awarded at Grades 9-6, while 84% achieved Grades 9-5 and an impressive 95% of all grades were awarded at Grades 9-4. Students also excelled in additional qualifications, with 57% of Further Mathematics grades awarded at Grades 9-8, while in the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ), 64% of students achieved A/A grades and 100% achieved grades A-B**.
These outstanding outcomes are testament not only to academic excellence but also to the resilience, commitment and enthusiasm that Thornton students bring to their learning. As a non-selective girls’ school, Thornton remains committed to recognising the unique strengths of every individual and creating an ambitious environment in which students can thrive and achieve their full potential.

Dr Shaw, Head Teacher, commented:
“I am thrilled for our students this morning. They have worked so incredibly hard, not just in recent months but throughout their time with us, and their fantastic GCSE results are thoroughly deserved. It is always a privilege to join with families in their celebrations and to congratulate the girls and their wonderful teachers on all they have achieved. I know that our 2026 cohort will go on to be amazing leaders of our school and ambassadors for all that can be accomplished through ambition and commitment. We are very proud of them all.”
Students and families celebrated their achievements together as they collected their results, reflecting on years of dedication and looking ahead to the exciting opportunities that await them in Sixth Form.
Rose, who is continuing her studies at Thornton Sixth Form in September, commented ‘Thornton is the most welcoming environment and has helped me achieve great things. I can’t wait to begin my Sixth Form journey here! I am so grateful for the community.’

At Thornton College, we believe that success is achieved through a combination of ambition, perseverance and a genuine love of learning. These exceptional results are a fitting reflection of a school community that encourages every student to aim high and embrace the opportunities before them.
We warmly congratulate all students on their achievements and look forward to seeing them continue to flourish in the next stage of their educational journey.
