‘We are, of course, very proud. We recognise that the past two years have not been particularly easy but today we have seen that hard work, determination and consistent application really do pay.  To get such good results across the year group when we have a mixed ability intake is a testament to our students’ huge efforts and the commitment and enthusiasm of their teachers.  It has indeed been a challenging few years with covid restrictions and lockdown learning, however, these results show that our girls really have ‘met the challenges of life courageously’ in line with Thorntons’s mission statement. Huge congratulations to all our students and their parents / guardians today for such excellent results – we are all very proud.”

Louise Shaw, Deputy Head said:

“What an incredible year group to achieve such fantastic results in the light of higher grade boundaries and lockdown learning during crucial GCSE years.  It’s a joy to be here today welcoming students and their families back and joining them in celebrating and congratulating their achievements.  A wonderful day for the whole school and especially these brilliant students who thrive here at Thornton and who we welcome back into our Sixth Form in September for their next steps in further education!”

Family members and students who visited the school today to collect their results were quick to respond:

Emily said, “Thornton is a good school to help you pass your GCSEs – I’m happy” and her parents who joined her this morning to collect her results said “We’re just so delighted. The whole ethos of Thornton is what makes children flourish here – the individual attention.”

Charlotte commented that she was “pleased with how it went and so proud of myself”. Charlotte is looking forward to studying Biology, Psychology and Sociology.

Kashish, who achieved some of the highest results and who is looking forward to studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths A Levels said, “I’m very excited and very proud.”

Clara who will study Maths, Chemistry, History and Further Maths at A Level said, “I am relieved.  The atmosphere here at Thornton is really good and if it wasn’t for this school I would have struggled more.”

Darina who was inspired to join Thornton by Thornton Alumnae, Emily Haigh, and who won the MK Festival Musician of the Year Award 2021, commented that Thornton is “a great opportunity for lots of new experiences and to encounter and meet inspirational people.”
