Each year Thornton College admits international students and provides the Cambridge Assessment English for Speakers of Other Languages course.
We are extremely proud of our students in Years 7-10 who have achieved a fantastic set of results in the Cambridge Assessment English qualifications this year. Our students took exams in Preliminary English with 57% achieving grades A-B and 100% achieving A-C, First Certificate in English with 25% achieving A-B and 100% achieving A-C, and Certificate in Advanced English, with 100% of students achieving A-C. Achieving the Certificate in Advanced English demonstrates that students have the English skills required to succeed at university, at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
To achieve these excellent results against the backdrop of the pandemic and the challenges faced by our students is an incredible achievement, and testament to their hard work. The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and Cambridge qualifications are internationally recognised as incredibly valuable, and the development of English skills to this high standard will equip our students for an international future.
