The latest Careers Spotlight talk was delivered by Sarah Arratoon, Marketing Director of Hachette Publishers. Sarah showcased the many different roles available in the sector, including editorial, literary agent, rights, publicity and design. She also busted myths around starting out in Publishing, such as careers only being open to those who have studied English at university.
The diverse range of jobs can be accessed by those who have studied a range of subjects and many publishing houses now offer apprenticeships. We were super impressed with Sarah sharing her marketing pitch to Michael McIntyre, and the pressure she was under to create engaging, funny ways to promote his book! This was a great follow up talk to the recent event with Camilla Tominey, and we look forward to upcoming careers presentations on Film and Television Production and Advertising.
