Willow Herold from InvestIn spoke to all students from Years 9-13 about the fantastic programmes the organisation offers, and emphasised the importance of standing out from the crowd when applying for university and apprenticeships.
Research has indicated that people will now do 12 different jobs during their life time across a range of different industries, and exploring different pathways when at school can prepare students for this changing future. Willow gave some great tips on how to arrange work experience, which was particularly relevant for our Year 11s, who are currently organising placements for next year. She recommended volunteering, part time work, shadowing and online placements in addition to formal placements and internships.
There was some excellent advice on how to make the most of work experience, including networking, asking questions, creating your own work, varying tasks given and keeping a record. InvestIn courses are both virtual and in person, and range from one day to a week. Fifteen different careers areas are available, including TV and Filmmaking, Forensic Science, Law, Psychology, Architecture and Medicine.
From next week there are a number of wide-ranging free careers webinars that students can join. To find out more visit www.investin.org.
If signing up for a course, we have a discount code which can be accessed by THORNTON10.
