Year 10 girls began studying ‘Romeo and Juliet' recently.
William Shakespeare’s classic tale, about a long-running family feud between two families leading to tragic consequences, is one of their set texts for GCSE English Literature.
Mrs Coates and the students have been considering why Shakespeare chooses to present the audience with the whole plot at the very beginning of the play. By using physical theatre, the activity got students to consider which themes Shakespeare introduces in the Prologue and what hints the audience receive about what is to come.
The girls participated in the exercise with a great deal of enthusiasm, leaving them with a clearer understanding of how Shakespeare approached this particular play.
