Year 12s square up to a culinary competition.
The second day in Activities Week brought fresh, or should we say just-baked, challenges to Thornton’s Sixth Formers. The girls responded admirably to the brief of creating a lunch menu by rustling up a magnificent spread of pasta, potato and fruit salads with side servings of homemade coleslaw and sandwiches.
Year 4 students, who themselves have been taking cookery lessons with our in-house catering team, made a special appearance outside Friends Café to judge how creative the Seniors had been in decorating chefs hats.
The difficult task of judging the presentation and tastiness of the fridge cakes the Year 12s had made in the morning fell to Mrs Storey, along with Mrs Tipping and Dr Shaw. How far had the girls veered from the original recipes and, importantly, did their unique twist add or detract from the flavour?
