Academic Year 8

Year 8s let their imaginations run wild to create strange and dreamlike art.

The study of surrealism is giving Thornton’s Year 8s licence to explore the irrational and the contradictory during their journey through different types of art.

After introducing the cultural movement and examining the work produced by Salvador Dali, Mr Taplin encouraged students to draw mythical creatures and hybrids to get them better acquainted with the practice of creating strange creatures from everyday objects.

Taking the class outside, he then invited the girls to think right outside the box and experiment with watercolours to paint anything they liked – the more illogical and bizarre the better!.
