Year 5s create anatomical drawings of stargazer lilies.
Prep School students have had the best of both worlds – Art and Science – while learning about life cycles.
To help the girls get to grips with the male and female parts of a flower, Mrs Hall asked them to draw the stargazer lilies placed in clear vases on the tables in front of them.
Once completed, their next assignment was to label these pictures correctly using scientific words such as stamen, anther, ovule and stem.
Breaking down the different parts of the flower in such an anatomical way proved to be a creative and worthwhile exercise in giving the class a visual understanding of the reproduction of flowering plants.
