Year 12 students receive Special Award for architectural design.

Congratulations to the Thornton students who submitted 3D creations to a school-based competition to plan and design a new building in Milton Keynes to celebrate the ‘new town’ turning 50 years old.

Particular commendation must go to Year 12 students Clementine and Natasha who received a Special Prize for their joint entry.

Alongside other school children’s work, their exhibit was judged by Rachael Wilson, RMW Architects and Chair of Buckinghamshire Society of Architects, and Simon Wright, Curator, Public Programmes, MK Gallery.

The third judge was Patrick Richard, director at Stanton Williams and the architect of the proposed pavilion in Campbell Park. He said that genuinely this was the hardest competition he had ever had to judge because all the students' ideas were so inspiring and motivational.

Speaking of our Special Prize winners, he thought the concept was exceptional and that it was a very sophisticated scheme. He particularly liked the relationship between the two parts of the building and thought the model was very delicate and carefully executed.

Natasha and Clementine have won a book and £50 Amazon Vouchers for Thornton to spend on something related to the competition. All the designs are on display to the public in MK Gallery until 24th June.
