Award-winning architect selects winning designs for Milton Keynes ‘Missing Building’ competition.
Thornton’s budding architects and designers have truly excelled themselves with the work they have produced for a competition and exhibition specifically for local schools.
Over the past term, a squad of Year 5 to Year 12s have answered a brief to plan and design a brand-new building for a plot outside Xscape. With the help of the Thornton art department and expert advice from trained architect Mrs Luddington, their challenge was to draw, create and ultimately make a 3D model of their architectural ideas.
What could slot into this space? A laboratory? A butterfly garden? A study and reflection zone? Whatever purpose it served, real or imagined, the only constraint was that it had to be presented within a standard-sized supermarket cardboard box.
Award-winning architect Angela Brady OBE kindly offered to judge the entrants this week on the quality of their ideas and their imagination and presentation with the winners from different Key Stages progressing to external judging.
They will now be competing against children in other local primary and secondary schools. Prizes will be awarded on Saturday 3rd June and the exhibits will be showcased at MK Gallery, alongside other architecture-related events, throughout the month of June for any member of the public to view.
