News Year 5

Year 5s get a feel for large-scale installation art.

In their weekly Art class, Year 5s continue to seek inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy and his work as an outdoor artist and proponent of installation art.

Last week, the students tried their hand at ‘yarn bombing’ for the first time, wrapping lengths of wool tightly around branches or twigs to create hanging mobiles to brighten up any room.

This week, Mr Taplin transferred the class to the great outdoors and encouraged the girls to move up a level in terms of the scale of their work.

After choosing an interesting looking tree in the school grounds, he gave them the task of decorating the low-lying branches with lots of multi-coloured wool – their own take on transforming a landscape into a riot of colour and a great way of becoming more comfortable with a fleeting art form.
