Academic EYFS

Reception girls explore all things canine during a week with a dog theme.

Mrs Thomas and her class have been looking at man’s best friend as they continue with their topic on pet animals. They transformed their activity corner from last week’s Pet Shop into an Animal Rescue Centre to set the scene and heard about the work rescue dogs do and how to be safe around all kinds of breeds. The girls really enjoyed a visit from a dog called Parker, nearly as much as painting their bare feet to make footprint pictures of puppies!

They also learnt how to draw a dog following picture instructions before finishing the theme with a story called Odd Dog Out in the library. Mrs Barnes surprised the students by showing them a video clip of her own dog Boris ‘talking’, addressing each and every one of them by their name.

All the girls were just as excited to return to class with a white paper package under their arms. Mrs Barnes had kindly wrapped up books about dogs for each of them to take home and read.
