Year 6s celebrate their topic on light with a shadow puppet show.
In Science with Mrs Hall, Thornton’s Year 6s have been exploring the behaviour of light. In recent weeks, they have learnt about shadows, reflections and how we see things.
In particular, they have investigated how light can pass through certain materials but reflects on others, and how shadows are created when an opaque object blocks the light source.
To end the topic in style, the students worked in teams and drew not only on their new scientific knowledge, but also on their creative and literary skills to devise a puppet show. Once they had set up a light source behind a makeshift white screen they were able to introduce a cast of black paper puppets and stage an ‘illuminating’ shadow puppet show to their classmates.
