Reception class learns about nursery rhymes.
Mrs Thomas has been looking forward to introducing her girls in Thornton’s Reception class to nursery rhymes and using them as the basis for some interesting and fun classroom learning.
When the students arrived on Monday morning they were excited to discover a letter addressed to them from the Jolly Postman. In it, he gave the girls some clues about the nursery rhyme for this week. A clock and a mouse pointed them to Hickory Dickory Dock of course.
Since then, they’ve been making card mice using triangle and circle shapes and they’ve also constructed their own clocks, writing the right numbers up to 12 in the right places and learning to tell the time in the process. They’ve also worked on their literacy skills by writing letters back to the postman and posting them in the newly-arrived post box in the classroom.
Which nursery rhyme will be the focus for next week’s learning, we wonder…
