Senior students bring their reading to life in Literacy lessons with a twist.
In recent English classes, Mrs Newman has been encouraging Year 7 and Year 8 students to become avant-garde book reviewers and publicists by producing their own video trailers of the literature they’ve been reading.
Before the Christmas break, the teacher gave each girl a wrapped book as a Christmas gift. They had to read their copy during the holidays, discuss it with their peers and work in small groups to find interesting ways of telling the story in video format.
One group had to promote Into That Forest, for example, while another had To Kill a Mockingbird. Between them, the girls reviewed their books, created storyboards and filmed a two- to three-minute video trailer to encourage the rest of their year group to pick up a book they might not usually choose.
