Pre-Prep and Prep School students share a special assembly with Nursery children.
In a first, Mrs Darwin invited Nursery boys and girls to join Thornton’s older Prep School students for a special assembly in the Chapel.
It gave all year groups the opportunity to come together and talk about the current RE topic – ‘local church’ – and the many different ways in which it has been explored this term.
Nursery children waved hello as Mrs Darwin explained that the Chapel was their ‘local church’, part of their local community. Following on, the girls in Reception talked of how they had been learning about weddings and celebrations. They also displayed some wonderful paintings depicting Simeon and Anna in the Temple.
After beautiful singing by Year 1s and some words from Year 2 students about their love of books, the bible in particular, Year 3s shared some of the prayers from their individual prayer books.
Moving up the year groups, Year 4s and Year 5s talked about the idea of community and the local communities and clubs to which they belong. Amy B from Year 6 read a letter she had penned to the rest of the children about kindness and sharing and, together, the Year 6s ended the assembly by reciting the books of the bible – all 56 of them!
