School Event Whole School & Nursery

St Claudine’s Day becomes a Day of Service.

Every February, Thornton College, along with other Jesus and Mary schools across the globe, celebrates Saint Claudine who dedicated her life to the education of young girls.

To honour her memory, Director of Chaplaincy Mrs Darwin proposed that this Feast Day also become a Day of Service at Thornton, an opportunity for students to give something tangible back to the local community.

So positive was the response that today saw a full and varied timetable of feel-good events, ranging from revamping the school quad to hosting and entertaining the elderly.

While girls in Pre-Prep enjoyed baking carrot cake muffins to donate to the Winter Night Shelter Milton Keynes, Year 8s had a row of staff cars lined up and ready to be cleaned by hand. Back inside, Year 12 students began to write a new school song and prayer and Year 10s made a ‘thank you box’ with 100 years of thank yous to the Sisters of Felixstowe. So lovely too was it to see groups of elderly people interact with our Year 9s in the Drawing Room over morning coffee, music, drama and dance.

Afternoon Mass brought all the year groups together to share their experiences and talk about how they had given something back to their local community.
