Thornton shows its support for Red Wednesday.
We encouraged all students to wear red for Faith Day today to raise funds for Aid to Church in Need (ACN). Sister Annie, one of our Jesus and Mary Sisters, visited Thornton during the half-term and talked about the devastating conditions in which families are forced to live in war-torn Aleppo.
She is currently working in the Syrian city and supporting the charity, ANC. She is desperately seeking funds to buy food, fuel for fires and warm blankets and clothes for the children trapped there. For the privilege of not wearing school uniform we asked for a contribution of at least £1 to go towards this cause.
Red Wednesday is being marked across the UK by all faith groups to support religious freedom throughout the world. Even the façades of Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey will be lit in red this evening.
