Year 6 students learn about basic programming with the Scratch project editor.
This week, Year 6 students have been creating a simple on-screen animation to advance their knowledge of basic programming techniques. In Year 5, Mr Cousins introduced them to Scratch, a visual programming language.
Over the next few weeks, they will be using the tool in more depth to create animations, games and interactive stories. In the first lesson, the girls mastered how to control a character on their computer screen, selecting certain commands to make it move forward and walk in a square and to instruct it to change direction and slow down. Linking the commands together like pieces of a jigsaw is providing the girls with the necessary stepping stones to building up a range of animated presentations.
