Thornton welcomes more than 200 Year 6 children from local schools to celebrate Year of Mercy.
It was wonderful to swell the school ranks today when we opened our doors to 215 extra children – Year 6 boys and girls from the local Catholic primary schools of St Monica’s, St Thomas Aquinas, St Mary Magdalene, St Bernadette’s and Bishop Parker.
Like Thornton, they are part of the Milton Keynes Liaison Group and we were honoured to host a team-building day for all the Years 6s. The idea was for the children to get to know each other as they start their final year in Prep/Junior school.
Activities included fun games in the grounds such as passing a hoop around a circle without breaking the chain of hands and keeping two balloons buoyant for as long as possible.
The day culminated with a special Mass to celebrate the Year of Mercy, which runs until 20th November. Led by Father Brendan from Northampton Cathedral, it involving all the children.
