Thornton commemorates children’s author with a ‘Dahlicious’ dress-up day.
September 2016 marks 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl – the world’s number one storyteller. To celebrate the much-loved writer’s fantastic tales and characters, the Thornton community pulled out all the stops today to be part of the biggest Roald Dahl Day party of all time.
The annual Dahlicious Dress Up Day raises money for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, which provides nurses and family support to children living with serious, rare and undiagnosed conditions.
Along with schools and groups around the globe, we invited staff and pupils to come to school dressed in yellow (Dahl’s favourite colour) or as one of their favourite characters from any of his books. We had oompa loompas and BFGs roaming the quad, Fantastic Mr Fox, pretty Matildas and Willy Wonkas with their golden tickets.
Prep teachers also arranged an exciting array of Dahl-inspired activities and lessons throughout the day and our wonderful catering staff served up the likes of The Twits spaghetti and Marvellous custard with Matilda’s strudel for lunch.
