Year 8s pull out all the stops to showcase their hobbies in a hands-on exhibition.
Who would have thought our Year 8s had such diverse and fascinating hobbies? Between them, they have a keen interest in cookery and baking, the cadets, shooting, horse riding, Marvel comics, art and books, to name but a few, if their exhibition in the Sports Hall this week was anything to go by.
The Hobby Show is an annual event in the school calendar. Every Trinity term, the Year 8 students are asked to work in small teams in their PSHE classes to put together a presentation showcasing their favourite pastimes. They have three weeks to plan the layout of a stall as well as posters, interactive displays and quizzes to really bring their hobby to life. Year 3 to Year 6 girls from the Prep School, plus Year 7s, are then invited to browse the stalls, talk to the Year 8s, and get hands on with the displays.
The objective of this exercise is to help the Seniors use their initiative and imagination and improve their communication and teamwork skills. In Year 8, they work towards a Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (COPE) Level 2 award within the ASDAN framework. The nationally-approved qualification focuses on personal and social development and the Hobby Show is an enjoyable way to illustrate the extent of their development.
