Year 10 students carry out experiments to show the relationship between angle and frequency.
Today, one of our Year 10 Physics classes investigated the effect of angle/amplitude on frequency and period. Working in pairs, the students swung a pendulum back and forth, timing how long it took to complete 10 oscillations. They repeated the experiment another four times, changing the angle at which they started the swing every single time.
With the results, the girls were able to draw a graph to show how changing the angle of a moving object has a direct effect on its frequency. In a similar test, they also changed the mass of the pendulum ball to work out how weight also has a bearing on frequency.
