Years 3 and 4 write reports in their Learning Journeys.
Every term, the girls in Year 1 through to Year 6 complete a project or piece of work in English, Maths and Creative Curriculum (Humanities for Years 5 and 6) in their Learning Journey books. At the end of Trinity term, they then have nine records of their progress and achievements over the academic year.
This week, it was time for Year 3 and Year 4 pupils to add another entry to their journals in their Creative Curriculum lessons. To complement their study of the rainforests of the world, each child researched a rainforest country of their choice, ready to write a non-chronological report. They undertook independent map work and made notes on the population size, the capital city and the whereabouts of the rainforests in their given country. They also looked into the animal and plant life in the region.
Their task was to turn these notes into a detailed report in the present tense, with titles, sub headings, correct punctuation and a variety of openers and connectives.
These Learning Journeys are specific to Thornton College – we introduced them three years ago – and serve as a lovely record and keepsake of the students’ progression through their Prep years.
