All Seniors Year 8

Year 8 students discuss third world poverty.

In RE lessons in the Senior School, we ask Thornton girls to consider the lives of people in communities far removed from our own and to spare a thought for those considerably less fortunate than ourselves.

To raise awareness of the huge gulf between us in the rich world and the people who are forced to survive in absolute poverty, Sister Brenda asked Year 8 students to prepare a talk on a country of their choice to show their classmates how the poor live there and the challenges they face. As each girl chooses a different country (Madagascar or Sierra Leone for example) the students are exposed to a range of places in which the issues are very similar.
