Year 5 students research, design and make decorative felt toys.
The Year 5 girls taking Design and Technology classes this half-term are coming to the end of their current project. Over a series of Friday morning lessons, Mrs Warner has introduced them to the different planning and preparation stages they need to go through in any design process.
To make a soft toy/decorative cushion, they first looked at existing products in the marketplace, decided on a shape from a pre-cut piece of felt (frog, house or butterfly) and ascertained their target audience.
Following this development work, the girls turned their attention to design. Lizzie chose to put socks on her frog, for example, while Georgia made a happy house (one side) and an angry house (the other). They also had to choose a variety of embroidery stitches to embellish their product and showcase their skill. The end results look rather lovely, don’t you think?
