Irish up-and-coming singers hit the right note with a roof-raising gig and an eloquent message about online safety.
At Thornton, we strongly believe that education is so much more than the national curriculum and tests. In a world dominated by social media, it’s increasingly important to educate our young ladies on how to stay safe online.
To do this innovatively and effectively, Mrs Storey threw out the rule book and, in a first for Thornton College, played host to Irish boy band, Taken.
The trio of singers proved to be a massive hit with Year 7 to Year 11 pupils. In-between playing their own compositions and current pop hits, the boys paused to give advice on how to stay safe online and how to navigate social network sites with prudence. They also recounted personal tales of cyber bullying and where to go for help.
The boys, who hail from Dublin, have visited more than 70 schools in the past 10 weeks to not only entertain teenage schoolchildren with music but to talk about their personal experiences of bullying and how we can all keep ourselves in a good place in the world of social media.
