Space Seeds Start to Germinate!

We feel privileged to be part of a national project, ‘Rocket Science’, that will run over the next six weeks. Along with other schools participating in the nationwide initiative – 500,000 pupils in total – last week we planted 200 rocket seeds. Not just ordinary seeds though – half have been in space on board the International Space Station for several months, while the other half have stayed on earth.

Under the guidance of Miss Dean, the task is to measure and record key data for the two sets of seeds as they germinate and grow. This data will be uploaded to a national database set up by the UK Space Agency so as to be able to compare results across the UK.

Will the seeds grow differently because of their origin? Is it really possible to grow our own food on other planets, millions of miles from earth? We’ll have to wait and see…
