Thornton College pupils score success at the Milton Keynes Drama Festival.
Last weekend, Year 7 student Amelia V, plus five girls from Pre-Prep and Prep, represented the school at the Milton Keynes Drama Festival, now in its 48th year. The annual event invites students in local schools to showcase their talents. Competing in age-specific categories, our pupils were among almost 300 competitors performing readings, drama solos, duologues and public speaking.
The participating Thornton pupils all take co-curricular verse and prose lessons with Mrs Spink, who follows a syllabus from the London Academy of Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). Drawing on their training, they read their poems and recited their prepared prose with aplomb. Maia V from Year 4 was awarded a well-deserved first place in the Prepared Reading category with an extract from David Walliams’ Demon Dentist. Linya Z, also in Year 4, was placed second in Solo Verse with a lively rendition of Barry’s Budgie… Beware!
Year 2’s Emily B came third in her group – another fantastic result – and Pippa C (Year 2) and Jasmine S (Year 5) also gave sterling performances.
