We are delighted to announce that Mr Andrew Bowman will join us as our Director of Sixth Form. He joins us from New Hall School, one of the most successful Catholic Boarding Schools in the country. At New Hall, he leads the Government & Politics department, one of the largest academic A level departments in the UK with over 100 students currently opting for his subject.
Andrew has a teaching career spanning twenty years. He has taught at some of the highest performing academic schools in the country including Altrincham Grammar School and St Benedict’s School in Ealing. He taught Politics and Law in Australia and has spent the past three years creating an outstanding Politics Department at New Hall School. He has been both an academic and pastoral leader as well as making considerable contributions to the wider enrichment of all the schools he has been involved in.
Andrew has been involved in leading curriculum, professional development, Oxbridge and enrichment initiatives. He has been a teacher mentor, leading and supporting colleagues in the creation of outstanding teaching and learning. He has spent the last ten years committed to supporting the development of the Sixth Form academic and pastoral experience of all students. In doing this he has led trips to Russia, Europe and Canada and numerous trips to New York and Washington D.C. in America; something he is very keen to continue at Thornton College. He is passionate about students being aware of the world in which they live and the need for students to keep up to date with current affairs with all students supporting values and principles which will make the world a better place.
