Elite netball competition snaps up two Thornton students.
Congratulations to Francesca M (Year 7) and Shania G (Year 8) who have been selected for Loughborough Lightning U13 Training Academy. Loughborough Lightning is a team in the Netball Superleague (NSL), the elite netball competition in England and Wales. The equivalent of the Premier League in football, the league recruits the finest players in the UK as well as international stars with matches regularly aired on Sky Sports.
Thornton College Director of Sport Miss Hickman says: ‘At Thornton we immerse girls in competitive sport at a young age, typically Year 3 or 4 and they start learning the skills for the traditional games in Year 1. Whilst girls compete in many matches for the school, we also push them towards playing at clubs and nominate them for county trials. Both Francesca and Shania have represented the school in a range of sports for many years and are sports scholars. Their level skill and knowledge is a real asset to school netball teams.’
