Year 11s say goodbye.
A strawberry tea for the Year 11 leavers is one of Thornton College’s loveliest traditions. It is a time when the staff can share a few moments with their departing GCSE pupils and wish them well for the next stage of their lives. Over strawberries, scones and cream cakes, Miss Williams told the girls how ready they were to step out into the world, to a more robust environment.
She added: ‘Every single one of you has touched our lives in a particular way. You have made a difference to us. Being here and sharing time with us and with one another will have made a big difference to you, too.’
Before leaving, the girls collected their Jesus and Mary badges from the Sisters to signify that they will always be members of the Jesus and Mary community, which reaches to all four corners of the globe. ‘You don’t ever leave a family,’ Miss Williams noted, ‘and we very much feel you are part of our family.’
