  Bedrooms

Within boarding there are three areas called The Bachelor Wing, The Facade and The New Wing.

The Facade is home to our senior girls from Year 7 to Year 9 (aged 11-14). The rooms occupied are the original bedrooms of the manor house and so they are spacious, light and airy with high ceilings. The rooms have new furniture with plenty of storage space for our belongings. All the rooms have sinks and there are new shower units and toilet facilities on the Facade for us to use. There are between three to five girls  in each room and there is a mixture of new and existing boarders - this way nobody feels new for long!

The Bachelor Wing is connected to the Facade but is smaller in size. The corridor consists of smaller 'Manor House' bedrooms which are perfect for two girls to share. This corridor is used by our youngest boarders in Years 4 to 6 (aged 8-11). The rooms are brightly decorated and have been fitted with new furniture.

The New Wing is for our oldest boarders in Years 10 and 11 (aged 14 – 16). This is where I have my room which is one of fifteen individual study bedrooms. In each room we have a work desk for private study and a vanity unit.  Each room is light and airy with built-in wardrobes and under-bed storage. The corridor has good shower facilities for us to use. A New Wing bedroom is shown in the picture.

Additional: In Years 10 and 11 a lot of  girls switch from being day girls to boarders on a weekly or flexi-boarding basis.  Some do this all year round, others just for the summer months during exams so that they can concentrate on their studies.

In all the rooms we have pinboards so that we can personalise our own areas of the room which adds to the warm, homelike atmosphere of the boarding house.  We all bring lots of personal items from home, such as our duvet covers and cuddly toys.  This makes our bedrooms feel even more like home.

'Being at Thornton is like being at home!! The bedrooms are really homely and welcoming and there is a lot of space.'
