Each year we welcome a number of girls from Jesus and Mary Schools and other schools across the world to Thornton.  Girls join us as full time boarders either for one term or one full academic year, September to July.  These girls join our Years 6 – 10 (age 10+ to 14+) and are fully integrated into our British Boarding School system.  In addition to the boarding opportunities, we run English Language and Cultural Holiday courses from June - August.

2008 summer dates were as follows.

Course 1 - Sunday June 8th – Sunday June 22nd – 2 weeks
Course 2 - Wednesday June 25th – Wednesday July 16th  - 3 weeks Course 3 - Thursday 24th July – Wednesday 13th August
- 3 weeks

Sorry - this year's summer school courses are full.

Girls on the English Language Courses live with us, in school in our boarding house.  There are between 20 and 40 girls on each course and the maximum teaching set size is 16 girls.  Each English Language Course programme includes a balance of English Lessons, cultural excursions and games and activities.  Except on full excursion days, there are games and activities every day after school.  These activities include tennis, swimming and dance.

Course 1 tends to attract younger girls, aged 9 to 12.  Girls on this course generally have an upper beginner to intermediate level of English.  Course 2 tends to attract girls with an intermediate to advanced level of English and they tend to be a little older, 13 – 16 years.

Course 3 is run specifically for girls from Good Hope School Primary Section in Hong Kong.   This school is run by the M.I.C. Sisters and they have been sending girls to us for over 10 years now.  Girls on this course are aged 10 – 12 and have beginner to advanced level English.  Girls from other countries are welcome to join our guests from Hong Kong on this course.

If you would like to receive any information about staying with us for one academic year as a boarder, please contact the Admissions Secretary using the Prospectus Request Form in the Admissions Section.
